He was the assistant conductor under the leadership of Dr Rudolph de Beer and later Linda Claasen before he resigned in 2015 to take up the position as Musical Director of the Cape Town Male Voice Choir, a position he still holds. His involvement with the choir spans nearly 20 years.
Peter studied Choral Conducting with the Choir Academy of South Africa and is also a distinguished organist. He obtained his Performer’s Licentiate (LTCL) in organ from Trinity College of Music (London) in 1990, and the Performer’s Licentiate (UPLM) in organ from UNISA in 1991.
Peter’s other choral activities include that of Conductor of the Tygerberg High School Girls’ choir, as well as chorister in Schola Cantorum, the academic choir of the University of Stellenbosch.
He is an enthusiastic and inspiring leader whose immediate vision is to increase the choir’s repertoire and improve the quality of singing by applying modern techniques being taught to choral students at the University of Stellenbosch.
Peter aims to rekindle the love for choir singing for adult singers with the focus on enjoyment; creating a platform for the young adult to the more experienced singer; extending a repertoire beyond church music with a hint of light jazz, pop, soul and classics.
Collaboration with other choral groups is something Peter has in mind for the future which will allow scope for more adventurous and exciting productions.
