Welcome to Mecer City of Tygerberg Choir!

The City of Tygerberg Choir was called the Bellville City Choir between 1985 and 1991, though the choir was founded already in 1977 as a corporate choir for members of SANLAM in Bellville.

In September 2008 Mecer Computers became the sponsor of the choir which is situated in the northern suburbs of Cape Town- therefore the new name Mecer City of Tygerberg Choir.

The permanent conductors of the choir were:

  • Edward Aitchison (1981 - 2002)

  • Louis van der Watt (2003 - 2006)

  • Rudolf de Beer (2006 - tans)

Highlights:

  • The performing of major choirs composed by Mozart, Gounod, Faure accompanied symphony orchestras and international conductors.

  • Participating to the opening ceremony of the 2003 Cricket World Cup

  • Caltex choir festivals in 1996 and 1997

  • Music festival in Knysna (1997)

  • The Afrikaans "Woordfees" in Stellenbosch (2001 en 2002)

  • The Hallelujafestival in Cape Town (2003 en 2004)

  • Internasional Camber Music Festival in Stellenbosch (2005)

  • Die WASBE SA Conference (2005)

  • Cultivaria Cultural Festival in Paarl (2006)

  • Work shops for choirs by Eric Ericson and Kåre Hanken and Benjamin Zander

A very successful international tour was undertaken in 1996 in Europe and the first CD was published in 2000.
